Plant description

The species of this interesting genus can differ for the garden. There are bulb-forming and non-bulbforming irises. The non-bulbforming usually have creepers and are winter hard. The bulb forming kind usually need protection in winter. A calcareous soil is desirable. Iris x germanica calls for a not too moist drained soil and a sheltered warm place.
